Paul Lema is a master’s student in the Badger Ag Tech Lab advised by Dr. Brian Luck in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His current research focuses on inter-row mowing frequency and cover cropping, with the goal of developing minimally disruptive, chemical-free weed control methods for organic corn systems. More broadly, his graduate work explores ways agricultural technology can be incorporated into Indigenous Food Systems, boosting productive capacity while upholding cultural values surrounding traditional foods. On the side, Paul helps to run Muyu Minka Farms, a collective of Kichwa families residing in the Madison area working to revive their connection to land and produce healthy foods through traditional farming practices.
