Lindsey Hartfiel is the Research Program Manager for the Discovery Farms program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension, within the Agriculture Water Quality Program. She works with stakeholders and partners across the state to identify agricultural water quality concerns and priorities. In this role, Lindsey coordinates on-farm water quality research efforts including project development, collection of samples, data analysis, and communication. Research efforts are primarily focused on monitoring of surface runoff, tile drainage, and nitrate leaching below the crop root zone. She began her role with Extension in January of 2023 after completing her Ph.D. at Iowa State University where she conducted water quality research related to tile drainage and nitrates. Lindsey comes from an agricultural background, growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin. She enjoys supporting the agricultural community by evaluating the effectiveness of various practices on the landscape and sharing the results widely to help producers make informed decisions regarding their own operations.
